Technology is now woven into the fabric of family life. Smartphones, social media, gaming and online content offer genuine opportunities for learning and connection, yet they also bring pressures that previous generations of parents never encountered. My work is not about removing technology from family life – it is about helping families use it intentionally, in ways that genuinely support children's health, happiness and development.
Many parents tell me they feel overwhelmed by how quickly technology is changing and unsure how best to guide their children through it. Common concerns include smartphone readiness, social media use, gaming and screen addiction, sleep disruption, online safety, family conflict around devices and the challenge of establishing healthy boundaries and routines. These worries are entirely understandable – childhood is changing rapidly, and many of today's challenges simply did not exist when parents themselves were growing up.
One of the questions I hear most often is: "If not screens, then what?" The answer is that childhood should be rich with play, adventure, friendship, creativity and real-world discovery. These experiences are how children develop confidence, resilience, emotional regulation and strong relationships. Part of my role is helping families create practical space for these vital experiences within the demands of modern life.
Growing numbers of educators, psychologists and child development specialists are raising concerns about the impact of early smartphone and social media access on children's mental health. Delaying access gives children more time to build confidence, independence and a strong sense of self before facing the additional pressures of the online world.
As a trained PAPAYA presenter, active member of Smartphone Free Childhood and experienced educator, I am passionate about helping families build healthier relationships with technology. My focus is on connection rather than constant consumption, prevention rather than crisis management, and real-world experiences alongside digital opportunities.
Whilst much of the conversation centres on children, many adults also recognise that their own relationship with technology could be healthier. By becoming more intentional with our own screen use, we model the behaviours we hope to see in our children and create greater presence and connection within family life.
I offer guidance around smartphone readiness, screen overuse, gaming, social media, family boundaries and creating healthier daily routines. Digital wellbeing support can be incorporated into family coaching or delivered as standalone guidance to suit your family's needs.
I deliver engaging talks and workshops for parents, pupils and school communities covering safer smartphone use, social media awareness, healthy screen habits and creating a balanced childhood in a digital age. Sessions are tailored to the audience and can be delivered as parent workshops, pupil talks or whole-school events.

Deciding when a child is ready for a smartphone is one of the most common dilemmas parents face today. I help families think through the timing, set clear boundaries and establish healthy habits from the outset, so technology enhances rather than disrupts your child's development and wellbeing.

When technology becomes a source of conflict at home, it can affect the whole family. Through coaching and practical guidance, I help families establish clearer boundaries, reduce tension around devices and build a calmer, more connected home environment together.

I deliver engaging talks and workshops for schools, parent groups and community organisations on topics including social media awareness, safer smartphone use and healthy screen habits. Sessions are tailored to the audience and designed to inform, inspire and spark meaningful conversations about technology and childhood.
